Aminya Place - Its history and its community spirit

Based on her highly commended entry for the 2025 LCHS Lane Cove History Prize, Barbara Palmer presents a unique study of social history by examining the creation and the effect of social connection in one street in the Riverview Estate.

She takes into account the history of the Riverview Estate and widens the perspective to include the broader Riverview peninsula, including maps and photographs from earlier times.

Her story is an engaging and heartwarming account of building community spirit. We can immediately recognise and value this important social quality - exactly at the same time as it is disappearing in our neighbourhoods.

By exploring the lived experience of one street in the Riverview Estate development, we learn how social history can bring us to a better understanding of Lane Cove more generally.
